      <image:title>Being with</image:title>
      <image:caption>At CCHP we believe in the power of “being with” people. Material poverty is a significant factor in causing and entrenching homelessness, but equally significant are poverty of relationship and poverty of identity. We believe that building up relationships of trust, listening to people, empowering people, and spending time together in healthy community can make a real, lasting difference.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Being with</image:title>
      <image:caption>All our chaplaincy work begins with a relational approach of non-judgement, putting “being with” people ahead of “working for” them and sharing in our common humanity. We want to offer dignity, respect people’s history and autonomy and show genuine love.</image:caption>
    </image:image>
    <image:image>
      <image:loc>https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/5d388b7c3e91b20001fc1d87/c46fb827-cf0a-42e6-81d3-5236af330b1f/Book+to+Cook+M+and+M.jpg</image:loc>
      <image:title>Being with</image:title>
      <image:caption>Our Christian faith lays the foundations for this approach of “being with”. In Jesus Christ, God was with humanity, sharing our dreams, struggles and sorrows. In fact, Jesus spent the first 30 years of his life on earth simply “being with” the people of Nazareth We seek to embody and live out this ethos of “being with” in all we do and to share it with people of all faiths and none.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Raising up Voices</image:title>
      <image:caption>One of the great injustices of homelessness is that people are very often marginalised, othered and silenced. Many of our friends in the homeless community tell us that they feel “invisible” or “like an animal” spending time on the streets. Our Christian faith teaches us that every person is made in the image of God, and that individuals and their stories are precious to God. In all we do, we seek to raise up and listen to the voices of people who have so often been silenced and shunned. Listening to voices of people who know what it’s like to be homeless is an integral part of our “Responding well to Homelessness” course; we invite people with experience of homelessness to speak at churches; and our community events always develop through democratic conversation between vulnerable people, volunteers and staff.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Community</image:title>
      <image:caption>We believe that good and healthy voluntary engagement with people experiencing homelessness can break down barriers, remove a sense of “us and them” and allow everyone involved to enjoy the transformative power of being in community. We acknowledge that there are real differentials of material power and wealth between people who have a home and people who don’t. But we don’t believe that should stop us from creating spaces and cultures where people are able to come together with equal welcome and dignity, enjoy what it means to be human together, and share friendship with people who might be seen as “different” to them.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Community</image:title>
      <image:caption>Our experience of being Christians together in church gives us this conviction. In church all are welcome and equal as beloved children of God. We know from conversations with both volunteers and members of the homeless community that co-creating such spaces and relationships can be transformative for people on all sides of the encounter.</image:caption>
